Hokkaido Rail Pass for this itinerary? 2017/1/17 16:10
Heyo everyone!

I will be visiting Sapporo (and other parts of Hokkaido) during this years Sapporo Snow Festival. I am considering getting the Hokkaido Rail Pass (7 day - 24,000 yen) and am wondering if it would be worth it for the following itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Sapporo, check-in to hostel
Day 2: Daytrip to Otaru [Activate/Buy Hokkaido Rail Pass]
Day 3: Explore Sapporo (first day of Snow Festival)
Day 4: Travel to Lake Toya, check-in to ryokan, explore Lake Toya
Day 5: Daytrip to Noboribetsu
Day 6: Travel to Sapporo-Chitose, check in to hostel (accommodations in Sapporo city proper are all mostly fully booked so I've had to get one at Chitose, which is quite a distance from Sapporo city centre)
Day 7: Daytrip to Asahikawa
Day 8: Explore Sapporo (take train from Sapporo-Chitose)[Last day of Hokkaido Rail Pass]
Day 9: Fly back home

I'll mostly travel around by train. Let me know if I should get shorter travel pass period, switch travel itineraries, etc. or any other tips you can share.

Thanks in advance everyone!

When using Hyperdia it seems that my overall travel cost would be above 24,000yen, so I'm confused as to why most people would say the Hokkaido Rail Pass would not be worth it.

But thanks for the replies!
