Security guard/Bodyguard/Bouncer? 2017/1/22 06:52
So my friend and I are wondering if we can work in Japan as some sort of security guards or anything that has to do with "guarding" we're foreigners and not really interested in teaching English or stuff like that.

We're both tall and we've got the security body physique if you catch my drift LOL, anyway if you know anything that can help us in the future, because we wanna live in Japan.

Thanks! :)

That's not a skill you can get a work visa for - they can employ locals for that job. You need to have specialised skills that need to be imported to be sponsored for a work visa. I doubt a security company would pay to bring in a foreigner.

That may be true just because we're foreigners so they won't hire us, but there must be some sort of way, even Private Security would suffice.

I'm pretty sure we would be a nice asset to the team since we're bigger, stronger and we actually know how to handle situations.

But I appreciate your answer so far man :)

Security work doesn't fall under any of the designated visa categories afaik. Immigration doesn't give visas for every kind of job even if a company wanted to hire you.

There are plenty of foreign security guards/bouncers around Tokyo but they're almost always military guys who were stationed here, married locals and are now on spouse visas. Spouse, student (part time only), or Working Holiday would be the only ways I can see being able to do that in Japan.

As I said first, it's not a skill that you can get a work visa on. Work visas cover specific categories, so you can't get one for just any job. If you really want to get this job in Japan, you need to have a different visa, such as a spouse visa.

It's possible to be hired by a Œx”õ‰ïŽÐ even if you are not a Japanese national, if that's what you're asking. Employers would usually expect that you already have a proper working visa for one reason or another.

But you also need to be able to understand Japanese language, because that's what you communicate by when getting orders, and you also need to understand what people are trying to say to you if you encounter trouble while guarding (such as "excuse me, but I belong here").

For this reason, when foreign artists come to Japan for promotion or concerts, they are always guarded by local people who are usually Japanese.

Not true. Following this logic no one can have business trip to Japan.

I agree with Uco, they usually use local people from what I've seen. It has nothing to do with business trips, it's about paying for flights for and going through the hassle of figuring out visas for non-essential staff (ditto for sound people, photographers etc.)

To the OP, if you're from a country that offers working holiday a lot of people on working holiday visas work in bars and clubs that cater to tourists and expats. That might be an option.

It's correct that no status exists for that kind of job, but I wonder why so many people insist on repeating the "you can't get a work visa if they can hire Japanese people" nonsense.

It really feels like stating the obvious, but there are many people who are in Japan on work visas doing jobs that Japanese people could very well do, under statuses such as Artist, Professor, Researcher, Entertainer, etc. And if you're going to say that this is allowed because there is a lack of Japanese candidates for such jobs, what about construction or delivery?

There are many more factors that "can Japanese people do it?" going into the decisions of which jobs qualify for work visas and which don't.

Working visa is issued for "non simple labor jobs".

I don't understand what you mean at all, but that's okay.

@Uco
To guard foreign celebs traveling to Japan their bodyguards don't have to be hired by Japanese company. They can just come with the celeb on business visa or something.

Well, the employer may not have to be a "Japanese company" and some of the bodyguards can be foreign, but can you give us an example of a celebrity that came to Japan and was not guarded by a fluent Japanese-speaker at all?

"They can just come with the celeb on business visa or something."
this opinion will make a confusion that foreigners can come on business visa of security guard.

I believe that they are hired by the celeb, not by a Japanese side. they are not eligible to have business visas, because they don't earn money in Japan.
