Best accommodations for Gion Matsuri?

Hello!
My fiance and I are planning to arrive in Kyoto late on July 16, 2017 and realized that Gion Matsuri will be happening the morning of the 17th. We are having a difficult time locating hotels, ryokan, and hostels near the parade route. Any suggestions?
Our only worry is that we will need to check in quite late, and we read that many ryokan have curfews and close their gates after a certain time.

The whole route is well serviced by subways. If you cannot find accommodation close to the route, follow the subway lines outwards.
