Mt. Aso level 1

Hi i just see the announcement here

it said that now the level is reduced from level 2 to level 1 but due to maintenance is required for a certain period, Aso Ropeway��s suspension will be continued.

No, there is still a 1-km no-entry zone. All the infrastructure around the crater needs some major repair. Not just the ropeway, but also the street leading there, the buildings, emergency shelters and and the walking paths.

As said, you can't get near the crater. It's been like that for over 2 years now, so don't hold your breath on the current policy changing in the near future.

A visit to Mount Aso can still be highly impressive and enjoyable even if you can't get up quite to the crater.
