Why not just buy the Odawara to Shinjuku ticket separately. It would probably be cheaper and less complicated.

If you buy Hakone Free Pass at Odawara station(4,000yen) then the free pass does not cover train fare from Odawara station to Shinjuku.
You need to get separate ticket for Odawara-Shinjuku.

If you buy Hakone Free Pass (5,140yen) at Shinjuku, then it cover return trip to Shinjuku.

I am assuming that the original poster is coming from Kyoto or Osaka, somewhere west (anyway not going back to Tokyo before heading to Hakone).

In that case, it makes sense to buy the Hakone Free Pass "inside Hakone only" version at Odawara for use "within" Hakone, then buy a single ticket to travel on to Shinjuku.

You can tell from the price difference that the full Hakone Free Pass pays off only if you do the "round trip" from Shinjuku.

To rinoa,

No it is not a "must." "Romance Car" is a limited express train of Odakyu Railway. So if you want to travel comfortably with reserved seat and also fast, you can pay the limited express supplement fee.

The Odakyu website says you can buy it at any Odakyu Railway Station.

If for some reason you cannot do that. It is only 50 yen more if you buy the 4000 yen Hakone "Odawara" version of the pass and buy separately a Romance Car ticket for 2080 yen.
