How would you say things like "this is my first attempt to read this book" "this is my fourth attempt to sing this song" "this is my second attempt at playing this game" in japanese?

In traditional Japanese, kokoromi (ŽŽ‚Ý) would be the word (or kokoromu as verb). But younger people now days probably would use the word torai (ƒgƒ‰ƒC , from English word "try") in conversations.
First attempt: ‰‚ß‚Ä‚ÌŽŽ‚Ý hajimete no kokoromi; or ‰‚ß‚ÄŽŽ‚Ý‚é hajimete kokoromiru Second attempt: “ñ“x–Ú‚ÌŽŽ‚Ý nidome no kokoromi

Have you learned the "...te miru/mimasu " construction to say "try doing something" when you don't know if you can do it or not? If you use that structure, you can make sentences like:
Kono hon wo yonde miru no wa hajimete desu. Kono uta wo utatte miru no wa hajimete desu. ... to say This is the first time I am attempting to read this book And This is the first time I am trying to sing this song.

Kono uta wo utatte miru no wa yon-kai-me desu
Kono geemu wo shite miru no wa ni-kai-me desu.
To say the second and the third sentences you mentioned earlier.
