Nara, Nachi falls and Koyasan in 2 days 2017/3/25 23:20
Hi,

We plan a trip from Kyoto, as follows:

First day - from Kyoto to Nara, a 2-3 hours stop there (to see todaiji temple and nara park) and then continue to nachi falls, Spending the night nearby (in Nachikatsuura).

Second day - From Nachi falls to Koyasan, spending the night there (afterwards we will head to Miyajima).

Does it make sense? Will we have enough time to see the main attractions?

Will we be able to tour nachi falls independetly only with public transportation?

Are there any tours we could join?

Itinerary is not realistic. Osaka to the falls is about 4-5 hours one way by public transport. Then you add in you other travels and sightseeing for the days.

You could :
First day - from Kyoto to Nara, a 2-3 hours stop there (to see todaiji temple and nara park) and then continue to Shingu , overnight Shingu.
Second day - Shingu bus to Nachi falls , and buses to Koyasan, overnight Koyasan.

I would not recommend it either way.

Nachi to Koyasan is at least 6 hours (realistically 7+), and you have to get to Koyasan fairly early (to beat the curfew or the last bus, whichever is earlier). That means you have to leave Nachi early, with no time to enjoy Nachi. Depending on where you go after Nara/Nachi/Koyasan, it might work out better if you do Nara-Koyasan-Nachi (again, depends on where you go after that)

It is doable, but lots of travelling. You may have to stay the night either at Kii-Katsuura or Nachi ; start early if you would like to use public transport, or taxi (Nachi to the Nachisan) to maximize your visit. You could have max 3 hrs ( by taxi) for the Nachi Taisha and the Waterfall

Second day:
Bus or taxi
Kii-Katsuura Station 6:45 to Nachisan 7:10
Nachisan 09:40 to Kii-Katsuura Station 10:05

Nachisan Bus 17:10, KiiKatsura 17:35

Second day - Tennoji - Nara; Nara - Koyasan

Although the second itinerary Shinji gave is doable, I too wouldn't recommend it. You're trying to do too much in 2 days, and Nachi Falls in particular is going to be a very long round trip for only 4 hours of sightseeing.

I visited Nachi no Taki around 2 weeks ago, and it took me around 4 hours to visit Hiryu shrine, the pagoda, nachi-kumano taisha, and walk 2/3 of Daimonnozaka at a leisurely pace. The itinerary should give you enough time to visit the waterfall shrine and nachi-kumano taisha, but you won't have much time to eat lunch, which will be a shame, as the area is famous for Tuna. The area also has some amazing baths too, particularly the Bokido bath at Hotel Urashima, and the men's rotenburo at Hotel Naka no Shima. I would personally advise you to either spend 2 days in Nachi-katsuura, or skip it spend extra time somewhere closer to Kyoto.
