Travelling from Hiroshima to shirakawa-go

Hi due to limited availability of the guest houses in shirakawa-go. I have to leave Hiroshima to get there on the same day. What is the best route utilising the JR pass? I did a google maps search and it will take 6 hours so I am prepared to get up early to make it there by noon. Any other tips greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your help!

Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka
Limited Express to Kanazawa
Bus to Shiragawako.

Textbook example of how the JR Pass can sometimes be an impediment... If you didn't insist on using it, you could first take an overnight bus to Nagoya and leave from there in the morning.

Actually, if you are lucky you could get a slot on the Sunrise Seto/Izumo from Okayama to Shizuoka (or to Tokyo, not sure which one is best to go to Shirakawa).
