Miyajima and himeji in one day from osaka

Can we do Miyajima island and Himeji castle in one day and if yes, how to do it. We will have JR pass. What time should we start on the morning from osaka.

It isn't a realistic plan, but it could be done if you only do the very basics and rush.

There is probably 6 hours of travel in total from shinkansen, local train and ferry. Most will say you need 3-4 hours for Himeji. And all day, if not more for Miyajima. And that would be excluding the extra travel times from Osaka.

That means doing it as two separate trips would be much better. So if we decide to do himeji in a day, what else can we do that day which is closer to himeji.

Other than the castle at Himeji what else is there to see?
Plan for me was to visit the castle. (By the time I arrive the Sakura's would have wilted -_-)
