Hi everyone! I'm a passionate swimmer and I will go to Tokyo for two weeks in June. I'm wondering if there are swimmable lakes near Tokyo? For example, is it possible to swin in one of the Fuji Five Lakes? Thanks in advance! Florian

Shiga prefecture · Lake Biwa Fukushima Prefecture · Inawashiro Lake Akita prefecture · Tazawako Lake Aomori Prefecture · Ogawara Lake Shizuoka Prefecture · Hamanako Lake They seem to be officially swimming lakes. It may be difficult because the water is still cold in June.

some of the lakes in japan look very beautiful and i always wondered why noone was swimming in them. i asked then locals and it turns out many of them are polluted so it is highly recommended not to swim in them.
most funny experience referring this was: there was some festival next to lake suwa and some store was selling some fish balls. people were heavily buying it, until till he said, that the fish is fresh from lake suwa. all of a sudden all locals stopped buying and the crowed dissolved in mere seconds :-)
