Looking for a job in IT area (Tokyo or Osaka) 2017/6/10 09:30
Hi!

I and my husband are looking for jobs in IT area but we speak English fluently.
We speak basic Japanese. Our grandparents came from Japan.
Is there a chance to find something in these cities or other cities?
We are graduated on IT college.

Thanks!

If you can speak native Japanese yes. If you want to work for a Japanese company you need often Japanese certifications.

If you want to work for a foreign company maybe it would be possible but since it is service work and often systems are in Japanese I am worried that it would be difficult but not impossible.

But please keep in mind what you can offer against the local people who work in IT and can also read English.

Since you work in IT, I'll give you a BIG HINT!

Here's a wonderful website - it can answer so many questions!
www.google.com

It can bring you to websites like these
https://www.daijob.com/en/index.html
https://jobs.gaijinpot.com/

If you work in IT, but you can't find the major online job websites, then I think you're not ready to work overseas.

Not for your to judge, sensei. Besides, being a good IT engineer has noting to do with knowing google and how to do good research on Japan. If you don't want people to come here to ask for advice beyond what is openly available online, then what's the point of this forum? If it bugs you so much, then why bother replying? Are you always like this? Jeez.... chill out

Anyway, one advice I can give you, OP, is to look at webpages of recruiting agencies in Japan. Many of them are international companies with agents that speak english, so you can just send them your resume or call them and discuss any possible open vacancies. The issue typically is that companies are not willing to sponsor visas, they want people already living in Japan and with the right visa to work, but it doesn't mean that this is always the case. Some agencies: Hays, Robert Walters, JAC international, IGS consulting, optia partners, en world....

I also recommend you career cross.

Even companies are international most of the operating systems are based on Japanese such as command promp, power shell etc. People working for international companies are often local or expats.

The key phrase there is "openly available online".
This type of information is absolutely openly available online. 20 seconds with google would answer this question. I mean, the question has been asked and answered multiple times on this forum alone.

Living overseas is not easy. I have lived overseas in various countries for the last nearly 15 years of my life. Especially where the language and cultural norms are significantly different, the ability to do basic research is absolutely fundamental.

I did not understand where you are at present? Iam also an IT engineer working in Japan since 14 years. Now Japan is in need of IT & technical professional because of drop in population. They are giving the visa to IT people for 5 years directly. Now Japan need skilled work force. if you speak basic Japanese, its enough to work in Japanese IT company.

i will second the comment from dainichi.
If you really want to come to Japan then you should try hard, really hard.
I did google in the past and found those websites quite fast actually.
Maybe your motivation is not that good. i guess you are living in the US and scared of trump :)
Anyway jokes apart, now is the right time. there is lots of IT demand but of course it depends of your specialisation and your skills.
It helps having a short notice period and be able to come for interview if requires.
If you work for a Japanese company be prepared for quite hard working conditions, if you manage to have a job in a foreign company then it can be much better (salary, working hours). They usually are more tough to get in though .

good luck.
