Getting around Biei

I plan to go to Biei via the Lavender Express from Sapporo then tranfer to the Norokko train and get off at Biei. I don't know how to ride a bike and I'm just new to driving so I don't think it's safe to rent a car. Can I see the tourists spots just by walking?

I only visited Biei in winter so I have no information about the sights that are a must-visit in summer but I know that all the famous trees are at some distance from each other; a lot of people used taxis to visit them all, I believe the taxis have special prices for a tour.
