Can you guys help me with the itinerary? It will be 4th time I go to Japan, I've been in Tokyo, Osaka, Nara, Kyoto and Hiroshima many times.
02/08 Arrive Tokyo 03/08 Sendai 04/08 Aomori for Nebuta matsuri 05/08 Go to Osorezan (is it doable in one day without car from Hachinohe or Aomori?) 06/08 Hakodate (1 day is enough for main places?) 07/08 Lake Toya (From Hakodate, would you go to Lake Toya or spend this day in Hakodate?) 08/08 Sapporo and Otaru 09/08 Furano from Sapporo (doable in 1 day?) 10/08 Ainu Museum and Noboribetsu onsen from Sapporo (doable?) 11/08 Sapporo 12/08 Take early flight to Osaka and enjoy Osaka there. 13/08 Kyoto 14/08 Horyuji and whatever happens later, any suggestion? 15/08 Tottori mainly for sand museum and dunes. (doable from Osaka or Kyoto, I would stay that night in Tottori) 16/08 Matsue from Tottori (doable?) 17/08 Hakata from Tottori, I've been to Hakata before it's just to stop and rest. 18/08 Kagoshima (stay there, doable in 1 day? never been there, mainly I want to be around Sakurajima) 19/08 to 21/08 I have to pick a 3 day excursion from Kagoshima, what would you pick? Yakushima or Okinawa? Never been to any of them, Yakushima looks cool but I've heard I would have to walk a lot to visit the cedar and rent a car...)
22/08 Go to Onomichi and visit Tomonoura if possible, depart from Kagoshima. Are Onomichi or Tomonoura worth? If not I would go to Hiroshima again
23/08 Go to Osaka or Kyoto and pick last shinkansen to Tokyo
24/08 to 31/08 Tokyo, I would pick two days to climb Fujisan. Any other good excursion? Been to Kamakura, Nikko, Enoshima, Hakone. Is Yokosuka worth for example?
Thanks so much for your patience

04/08 Aomori for Nebuta matsuri 05/08 Go to Osorezan (is it doable in one day without car from Hachinohe or Aomori?)
Note that the room rate in these days in Aomori is very expensive (and limited). I searched on Rakuten.co.jp and the price is around 30000 yen for a small single bed room. Hachinohe is one option, but the fare is around 15000 yen. You may want to consider Morioka where you can find rooms 5000-6000 yen. I guess you will have Japan Rail Pass 21 days and can commute from/to Morioka, 60 min one way. JR East allow reservation outside of Japan. By the way, Japan Rail offers a"Pass" for local elderlies, but it has some "black-out days" and in this itinerary, Japanese people can't use the pass. Japan Rail Pass has no such restriction which is very envious from the Japanese point of view :).
After Aomori, you are planning to go to Hokkaido, and will hit the top season. The hotel rate is also expensive, but it will be good place in summer (which is the reason August is the top season for Hokkaido). Do search and find relatively cheap places. Maybe Otaru is somewhat cheaper than Sapporo.

Noboribetsu is close to Lake Toya, why not go there and to the museum on the way between Lake Toya and Sapporo on the 8th? Then you can do Otaru on the 10th.
