Is Hakone Komagatake Trail Open? 2017/6/21 21:39
I understand there is a hiking trail from Lake Ashinoko to the summit of Mt. Komagatake and I would like to hike it this August (2017). I've read a lot about the hiking trail closures in the Owakudani region. Does anyone know if the trail from Lake Ashi to the Komagatake summit is open, or is it also affected by the closures? This website does not show the trail, which makes me hopeful that it is still open and not affected by closures, but can someone confirm? http://www.town.hakone.kanagawa.jp/index.cfm/10,1206,c,html/1206/20160...

Thanks!

All of 3 trails to Mt.Komagatake are still closed.

Bogasawa(Ashinoko lakeside) to Mt.Komagatake
Sounzan sta. to Mt.Komagatake
Ubako sta. - Owakudani sta. to Mt.Komagatake

Red dotted lines on the map you linked are off limit hiking trails.

Komagatake is OPEN! The areas around Owakudani are still closed due to the concern about the level of gases being released. But the good news is that Hakone is huge and there are some great places to hike. My favorites are Kintoki Mountain, Myoujou Mountain, and Kamiyama Moutain. All are open and give you the same challenge and just as good views as Komagatake
