Kyushu current flood condition 2017/7/9 22:51
Hi I'm flying to Fukuoka in 2 weeks. My original plan is to do rent-a-car and drive around. Is it still safe to drive around with current flood and landslide condition?

My itinerary below
Fukuoka - Kumamoto - Aso - Takachiho - Hyuga -
Nichinan - Kirishima - Ibusuki - Kagoshima - Tobu -
Fukuoka

I need some advice if I should change my plan.

Thanks & regards

It sounds better for you to choose a public transportation mode.
Kyushu Region is still in the rainy season.
The road condition may change during the few weeks from now before your coming.

The most torrential rainfall in the last week in northern Kyushu was concentrated in the same limited areas.
I guess your itinerary would not be greatly affected.

For Aso sightseeing, I have not found concrete information related to the rainfall, but currently Aso City has some areas where the ground is unstable.
The operation of JR Hohi Line (Kumamoto -- Higo-Ozu -- Aso -- Bungo-Taketa -- Oita) is currently partly suspended between Higo-Ozu and Aso.

In your itinerary, do the place names Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Aso and Kagoshima indicate cities?
("Aso" may refer to Aso City, Aso County and Mount Aso. "Fukuoka" "Kumamoto" and "Kagoshima" are both city names and prefecture names.)
Also, I wonder where "Tobu" is.

Thank you omotenashi for your advice

Yes, the place for Aso, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, I'm referring to the city.

Sorry there is a typo. Is Tosu not Tobu.

Yes, a few roads have been affected by the heavy rain.
There are plenty of roads safe and sound to travel in Kyushu. No need to cancel your trip.
Mind you, this is not the first time in history. Repair work done & speedy...hey this is Japan.
Ever thought about making that trip in a camping-car?

Thank you Alishan for the advice.

No, I don't think I will do this trip with camping-car
