Hakone hiking trails (near Owakudani) open? 2017/7/26 00:26
Hi there,
Simple question. The japan guide page for hakone currently says "Due to volcanic gases, the walking and hiking trails around Owakudani are currently closed to tourists. "

However, this was last updated in 2016.

Is there a website where we can check the current status?

I really want to do the hike, not just the ropeway/transit experience. We want to hike from Owakudani to Mount Komagatake, then down to Lake Ashinoko. But I dont know if the hiking is permitted, or are the trails ever open?

I appreciate any help!

Search "town.hakone.kanagawa.jp"
and you can find Hakone town official web site.
Choose English at the top of homepage,
move to "Commonly viewed pages, 1 Traffic regulation information".
You can confirm the current status.

A faster way is just look at http://www.pref.kanagawa.jp/mlt/f532580/
