Hyperdia - Kyoto to Osaka Airport 2017/8/14 23:51
Hi, I was thinking of taking the Ltd Express Haruka from Osaka Airport to Kyoto (and back again) later this month. Checking the route on Hyperdia throws up some weirdness, however. e.g. the 6.21am train on 31st August from Kyoto to Osaka Airport gives you:

06:21
begin KYOTO
[ Departure track No.6 ]
LTD. EXP HARUKA 3

06:47
07:08* transfer SHIN-OSAKA
[ Arrival track No.11 ]
Bus
* Caution! This result differs from the actual time, because the time table is not used.

07:33*
end OSAKA AIRPORT

Does this mean there are engineering works going on and that the Haruka train terminates at SHIN-OSAKA instead of at the airport, so we have to catch a replacement bus service to complete our journey? Or is this just a glitch on Hyperdia as the Haruka train is supposed to be a direct service? If there's anyone out there who's done this journey recently or who knows what's going on could help, it'd be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Did you mean Kansai airport?

Osaka Airport is Itami Airport (ITM) in Hyogo Prefecture. You need Kansai Airport (KIX).

Re: Hyperdia - Kyoto to Osaka Airport 2017/8/15 11:50
It is very simple reason, you just selected wrong airport name.
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=KYOTO&arv_node=...
This is the right answer that you want.
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=KYOTO&arv_node=...

So, "KIX" dosen't call "Osaka" airport,
but we know the route selections using as "Kansai(Osaka)".
http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/en/index.asp
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansai_International_Airport
Calling "Osaka" airport placed another location and no int'l flight, airport code using "ITM".
http://www.osaka-airport.co.jp/en/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itami_Airport

Google MAP also easier to understandings.
Kyoto to ITM :

Kyoto to KIX :

Understood? :)

Going to Osaka Airport, that looks correct.

If you want to go to Kansai Airport, that is different as explained by other erudite posters.

It is like people getting confused thinking Haneda is a domestic airport when it is actually "Tokyo International Airport".

Well, ITM is Osaka International Airport... but it is domestic.

Yes, ITM is currently domestic only due to regulation and government policy.
I can see the name changed to "Osaka Airport" in 1959, but not sure when the "International" change occurred.

Wikipedia says the name changed to Osaja International Airport in 1959, citing http://aranishi.hobby-web.net/3web_ara/itmkuko.htm

Hi, I'm the OP. Yes, realised my error a couple of hours later. Was confused as my airline listed it as Osaka Kansai Airport so I assumed Osaka Airport was it. Should've used the abbreviation KIX! Thank you to everyone who replied!

Luckily you found out before going to the airport.
A friend of mine went to the wrong airport and only discovered it when he arrived there and then there was obviously not enough time to reach the correct airport and finally what should have been a low cost flight traveling back from Kyoto to Tokyo became a long and costly adventure. Luckily he was still in time to catch the last Shinkansen to Tokyo.
And he actually speaks Japanese... so good you asked and now can enjoy Japan ;-)
