Is this the cheapest option for data SIM? 2017/8/16 01:58
Hi,
I want to ask is this option the cheapest for a data SIM?:
https://docomo.prepaid-sim.jp/lp/index.html#top

As I will need it only for maybe 1-2 times a day for checking Google Maps (and maybe sometimes messaging), I do not need fast internet of expensive plans? Thanks for any help in advance!

For 1-2 times a day, just find some public wifi. A reliable place to find it is FamilyMart conbinis (maybe other chains have it too?).

agree with firas, but if you wanna be sure, those are pretty cheap:

here is also an article (which is in german, but you can let translate it), that covers all free-wifi options aswell as all currently existing providers in japan:

A free Wi-Fi at seven-eleven, starbucks, McDonald's etc is free of charge(20 min - 60 min, 3 time - unlimited) with Wi-Fi apps.

I like starbucks Wi-Fi, I don't like McDonald's and 7-11 free Wi-Fi.

Yours is one of the cheapest plans Japanese providers offer.
However, if you take it, you'd better go their "Plan1700" as they only provide 128kbps connection speed in "Plan1000", which is practically useless even if you only use google map. You need 256kbps at least.

Of course, you can get around Japan with free WiFi but there's no real free lunch.
Japan is no exception (I'm Japanese).
We can find many articles about that just by googling it: https://pocketwifi.me/network/237

Here I agree with Glimpigumpi.
Although you have to pay some cost for this, you will must think it was very reasonable after getting around Japan with smooth internet connection.
