How many Matsuyama Stations? Which to use? 2017/9/17 02:16
Hi all!

I'm planning my itinerary to Shikoku and am working on Ehime now.
I'm using Hyperdia to plan my trains but I realised in Hyperdia they have 3 Matsuyama stations, namely:
1. Matsuyama (Ehime)
2. JR Matsuyama
3. Matsuyama City

All the trains I plan to ride (Shiokaze, JR Yosan etc) are from/to "Matsuyama (Ehime)".
But on all maps that I have looked at, I only see "JR Matsuyama" and "Matsuyama City".
From my understanding, "Matsuyama City" is for the Iyo-tetsu Railway and street cars.
And since Shiokaze is under JR I should be using "JR Matsuyama".
Yet Hyperdia states that "Matsuyama (Ehime)" is 5 mins walk from Matsuyama JR.

So where exactly is this "Matsuyama (Ehime)" station Hyperdia is referring to? Anyone knows?

TIA!

It is well explained here:

"Matsuyama-shi Station" is the same as "Matsuyama City Station".

Sorry, the link does not explain everything.

In Hyperdia, "MATSUYAMA(EHIME)" refers the JR station, while "JR Matsuyama Station" refers to the tram stop in front of the JR station.

"Matsuyama (Ehime)" is Matsuyama (松山) station of JR Shikoku located in Ehime prefecture; the official name of the station is just "Matsuyama", the "(Ehime)" part is to distinguish it from Matsuyama station in Fukuoka.

"JR Matsuyama Station" (not "JR Matsuyama"!) is the official English name of JR Matsuyama-eki-mae (JR松山駅前) station of Iyo railways.

"Matsuyama City Station" (not "Matsuyama City"!) is the official English name of Matsuyama-shi-eki (松山市駅) station, also of Iyo railways.

Hi all!

Thank you for the replies!

So now I can safely assume, according to the map JapanGuide has, JR Matsuyama Station is Matsuyama (Ehime), while the tram station right in front of it is the JR Matsuyama.

Thank you once again!

"HyperDia" just complies with the correct station name.
"Matsuyama station" of JR line does not attach "JR".

In tourist info map etc, written with "JR" attached to distinguish it
from the other station and tram stop usual.

So, in this case "MATSUYAMA(EHIME)" is JR's station.
"EHIME" is Prefecture name,
It is given to distinguish it from the station of the same name in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Use google maps first so you can place the stations in location to where you wanna travel, so that you get the correct station name. Then go to hyperdia...
