How do you call collect to the USA?

I have a phone number for my US credit card company. Their website says it's the only way I can contact them, however, it also lists a special number for *calling collect* from anywhere outside the USA.

Cool. How the heck do I use it???? :) Does anyone know?

I had the same problem, trying to call a credit card company in Canada.

To make a collect call from a payphone call 0051 there will be an English speaking operator and just them the country and the phone number.
You don't need to put any money into the phone to reach the operator

Sure appears that the 0051 number doesn't work now...

Okay, new data. KDDI says they don't handle collect calls anymore, but they recommend:

ATT: 00539111

Verizon: 00539121

Sprint: 00539131

Haven't tested them yet, but trying that next and still disliking the financial geniuses at the other end...

If you have a computor, download Skype, put $10 of credit on it, and call.
Have used it in Aus, Mexico, USA, Japan.

You can call 1-800 numbers with skype or gmail (from Japan). With gmail you can call any US/Canada number for free.

I tried calling my credit card company in US using ATT (unsuccessful) and Verizon (successful). Didn't try Sprint. See a couple of posts above for the numbers.

KDDI has changed their rule, so 0051 is no longer available.

This is what I did to enable collect call to bank of america. (2013/5)

Step1
Call 0077 7160 to register international calling service with KDDI..
Step2
Call 0053 9111 for collect call 3 min after complete step1.

Someone mentioned SKYPE. There is no need to put $10 or any money on your account. From SKYPE, call the 1.800# direct. I just did that with AmEx credit card. I was on hold for 8 minutes, but no worries...it didn't cost me a dime!
