Tanabata Festival in Tokyo 2009/6/4
Tokyo 23-ku
I arrive in Japan around 5pm July 7th (it also happens to be my birthday) and would love to see a festival. My hotel is in Asakusa so preferrably one in this area. Does anyone know if/when/where one might be going on?

I know that the festival is usually held on the August 7th somewhere that some occur on July 7th.

I don't care if it's big or small, I just would like to attend one. I know of the one in Hiratsuka, but I honestly do not want to spend any more time than I have to traveling that day.

roppongi 2009/7/6
It seems that roppongi will be opening up Tokyo tower for FREE on tanabata to everyone wearing Yukata or jinbei, so I'm assuming they're going to have something interesting going on there.

However, Roppongi is notorious for being full of Yakuza who love to target foreigners and other horrible things (The US embassy in Japan currently has a warning out on them, specifically in roppongi), so if you go for Tanabata, stick to the streets, don't visit the bars or clubs. Besides, the purpose of Tanabata is to look up at the sky! You can't do that from indoors. ;)
