Anyone ever been to Kanbodaiji Temple? 2009/6/11 11:30
I hope I got the name right. Unfortunately, I'm in no position to actually visit Japan myself, and particularly Shimagahara, at this time of year. I haven't seen much come back in the way of Google results for this temple, either, so to anyone who has visited, what can one generally expect?

Also... is Shimagahara a tourist-friendly destination for people fond of contemporary Japan, or is it better described as a village that's quiet, and a little tucked away? Just curious.

Pardon my ignorance, and thank you very much for the help!

Sorry. I have not visited at Shimagahara ever though I have visited near place a few times.
Any way, I suppose the place is rural area, and is quiet probably. You can go there through this route. Get off a train at Shimagahara station and walk 15 minutes.

And map from Shimagahara station to Kanbodaiji temple.

The train is nostalgic and tiny, and runs through deep and green valley.

I hope someone who has visited at there will post exact and detailed comment. However, if you need brief information (about history, sect and statue) that was written on these websites I will post again.
