Travel from Busan to Nah 2009/6/18
Naha
One more question and I promise I will leave you alone. I read that there is a ferry from Busan, Korea to Japan. Is there a ferry directly to Naha? If so would it still take approximately 19 hours and how would I go about booking transportation on this ferry for me and one of my grand daughters?

Unfortunately there is no Busan-Naha Ferry.

Okinawa is about 4-5 times farther than Shimonoseki (where the ferrys from Korea go) and is just too far to be practical.

Check out this page for travel options to Naha. All international routes are only available by plane.

Trying to avoid the pice of flying. 2009/6/18
OK...I am trying to save my son as much money as possible and I do not care how long it may take me to get there...but my daughter-in-law is playing in a softball tournament in Okinawa and I'm trying my best to find the cheapest way there because $1000 is really steep for a softball tournament. Can you advise me what would be the cheapest (although maybe timely) way to get to Okinawa once I get off the boat at either Hakata or Shimonoseki? If there is a travel agency we should contact for this information instead, I will do that and I am sorry to keep bothering you. I am just trying to get this all figured out for my son. Thank you again.

Flying from Fukuoka (Hakata) to Naha is likely to be the cheapest and fastest way. Among the airlines, Skymark has the best prices (close to 10,000 yen one way if you book early in advance outside travel peak seasons):

The difficulty is that nowadays people definitely fly to Okinawa, so people who take ferries to Okinawa are only those who need to travel with their cars, with no time restriction, and maybe someone who want to travel from one Okinawa island to another.

From Kagoshima (southern tip of Kyushu island) to Naha, there is a ferry that takes you to Naha, but ony 7, 8 times in a month, and it costs at least 14,200 yen one way (no sleeper), AND it takes 26 hours.

If you fly from Fukuoka to Naha, that would be under 2 hours, and regular airticket costs 20,000 yen or so. Discount ticket available as Uji suggested.

I could not find any English information on the ferries:
