Kyoto City
We are arriving at Narita airport on July 8 at 4pm.
We thought we would stay in Tokyo (near the station) so we could take the Nozomi the next day to Kyoto. Any suggestions? Then we will be in Kyoto until the 11th. Do any of you know of a day bus trip that can show us around Kyoto? We want to see as much as we can in a short time. Thank you

We are arriving at Narita airport on July 8 at 4pm.
We thought we would stay in Tokyo (near the station) so we could take the Nozomi the next day to Kyoto.

I think it comes down to personal preference. Your options are:
- first night near the airport, then to Kyoto
- first night in Tokyo, then to Kyoto
- directly to Kyoto on the day of arrival

Then we will be in Kyoto until the 11th. Do any of you know of a day bus trip that can show us around Kyoto?

Judy, arriving at Narita at 4pm would put you in to Tokyo anywhere between 6pm and 7pm. Not a good time to be navigating with luggage. Additionally the airport train arrives in the most inconvenient location for actually leaving the station. I would suggest that if you want to stay overnight that you do so at an airport hotel or Shinagawa. There are a few hotels a very short walk from Shinagawa station. It is a direct route from the airport and you can board the Nozomi for Kyoto there. As Uji pointed out you could simply go straight through and if you did that it would be advisable to change to the Nozomi at Shinagawa; it will be much easier than at Tokyo.
