Hello there,
I'm coming to Kyoto this July for the famous Gion Matsuri. I haven't reserved any seat for the festival and wonder if it would be easy just to stand and observe the parade some where along the streets?
I know the streets must be very crowded. Could you kindly tell me where is the best place to watch the parade and what time I have to be there?
Thank you so much in advance :-)

It is a long parade course, so, actually it is not so difficult to get good spots. If you go there an hour or so before the start and avoid the area where the parade starts, you should be able to get nice spots somewhere. Later during the parade (once when all the floats are moving), it is even easier to find spots.
