Which Bank? Foreigner to open account 2009/6/25
Currently, I stay in Malaysia. I need to open an bank account in Japan. I was told that i may get my Alien Registration Card within 2 weeks if i fly to Japan. But with the ARC, most of the banks will not allow me to open the bank account if i don't stay in Japan for more than 60 or 90 days (not sure). Its that true? Can anyone please suggest me which bank can accept me to open an account by using ARC without staying 60 or 90 days in Japan? Thanks V Much

I think your question got moved from the above thread, correct?

When they say you need Alien Registration Card, what they mean is that they need to see that you have an address in Japan (not just staying at a hotel, but at an address you live at).

So if you moved to Japan, and find a house/apartment to stay in (I assume you are going to be staying in Japan long-term if you are establishing a company?), then you can go ahead and register for the ARC at the city hall of the city where you live.

It's not just the the address that they look at on the ARC but also the status of residence. It can't be "temporary visitor." I'm not sure but I think that's a law and not just a bank-specific policy.

Thats right, its not just the ARC (anyone can get an ARC) but the status of residence can't be Temporary Visitor, I know some people complained in the past that they went and got a ARC to get a phone but just the ARC alone doesn't work, you need a status of residence that is not temporary visitor/tourist etc.
