Regarding JR East pass? 2009/7/19
Hi All,
I have few queries regarding Flexible 3-day JR East pass.
1. Is it possible to purchase this pass in Japan only? (Without having purchase order in home country)

2. Can the pass be purchased more than once? (Like two times)

Thanks

Is it possible to purchase this pass in Japan only?

No, you can buy it inside or outside of Japan. Either is possible.

Can the pass be purchased more than once? (Like two times)

If you buy it outside of Japan, there is no limit, but if you buy it inside of Japan, there is a limit of one per person.

JR East pass 2009/7/20
Thank you Uji-san.
Actually my first question was can I buy the 3 day pass after coming to Japan?

Regarding second question, whether the following sequence is possible?
1. Buy a 3-day JR east passin Japan. Then use it for 3 days.
2. After that buy another 3-day JR east Pass & use for another 3 days.

Thanks

Buy a 3-day JR east pass in Japan. Then use it for 3 days.

Certainly. Assuming you do so during the period while the special 3-day pass is on sale and usable.

After that buy another 3-day JR east Pass & use for another 3 days.

I claimed in my earlier post that there is a limit of one purchase per person and stay, however, I am not able to confirm this anymore. This limitation used to exist in the past, but I cannot confirm that it still applies now, as there is no mention of such a limit on the official website. They might have changed the rules.

when leave EAST towards Osaka 2009/8/20
I think i might get this 3 day pass.

Is it true the days are not concurrent?

If I go from Tokamachi to Osaka(as from what I read, Hakutaka Limited Express is not part of JR PASS but is part of JR EAST PASS) how do I pay for the rest of ticket once I have left the EAST and am now in Kansai area?

Or is this not possible?

Thank you

You can use it on any three days within a month. The days may or may not be concurrent.

You should buy the ticket before departure at a railway station. The JR East Pass is valid on the Hakutaka limited express as far as Naoetsu Station. Therefore, you should buy a ticket from Naoetsu to Osaka.

JR Pass 2009/9/3
Hi there,

If i only want to travel to popular areas like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ueno, Haneda and Narita airports etc, is it necessary to buy the JR Pass?

No, it's a bit expensive for travel in and around Tokyo.

Instead I would purchase the Suica + N'EX pass.

Jr pass 2009/9/3
Thanks! But pls enlighten me the differences between a JR pass and a JR East Pass.
by Angeline (guest) rate this post as useful

Differences between the two passes 2009/9/3
The JR Pass (the one that is sometimes referred to as the nationwide JR Pass) is usable on JR trains anywhere in Japan (with a few restrictions and exclusions). The JR East pass only covers JR trains within the service area of the JR East company, which is eastern and northern Japan (not including Hokkaido). There are a few other differences (including prices and days of coverage) but the main one is the coverage area.

On the following web site (top right of the page) is a map that shows the coverage areas:

Suica & N'EX, JR East Pass, JR Pass. 2009/9/3
Suica & N'EX package:
- This is not a railroad pass.
- No Suica card gives a discount by itself. The special N'EX ticket gives a great discount. - The ticket works as a reserved seat ticket for a N'EX train and also as a one-day fare ticket from the airport to a station in the Tokyo's designated are. It does not allow any stopover.

JR East Pass / seasonal JR-East Pass SPECIAL:
- This Pass covers all JR-East sections.
- This Pass can be used also in a few designated non-JR sections on certain Ltd. Expresses.
- This Pass can be ordered outside Japan / directly purchased inside Japan under some conditions.

Japan Rail Pass [JR Pass]:
- This Pass is valid for rides in JR Group railroad sections except for rides on Shinkansen NOZOMI.
- This Pass can be used also in local JR bus lines, in a few designated JR highway bus sections, and for JR-West Miyajima Ferry rides.
- This Pass can not be directly purchased inside Japan.

Regarding JR East? 2009/9/8
Hi
I hv read thru JR east website and some of the forums in japan-guide but im still unsure about the 3 days flexi JR East pass. Hope to clarify:
1) Is the 3 days flexi free to travel all routes under JR East? Or just to Nigitta? In the website, they seem to sell the 3 day pass to promote the region around Nigitta.
2) How to calculate the 3 flexi days?
a) By calendar day begin on 1st nov and end 1st nov regardless on time of commencing the first ride on 1st nov; or
b) by 24 hours- if begin at 7pm 1st nov, does 1 day ends at 6,59pm 2nd nov?

Thanks

ANY JR East line is fine.

Calendar day is a 24 hour clock.
So if you start Sept 12 at 7pm, it expires at 12am (though if you happen to be on a train then when you exit), or in metro tokyo the end of the last trains to my knowledge, which run to just a little past midnight.

"Generally" speaking it's the 24 hour clock.

b) by 24 hours- if begin at 7pm 1st nov, does 1 day ends at 6,59pm 2nd nov?

No it expires, after 11:59pm Nov 1, (minus a few exeptions mentioned above).

JR East Flexi 3-day Pass, Suica & N'EX 2009/10/6
Hi,
1. Will the JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-madoguchi) sell the JR East Flexi 3-day Pass? I will reach Narita at 8am and the Travel Service Centre will not be opened yet.

2. Can I purchase the Suica & N'EX at the airport but use the N'EX ticket for my trip back from Tokyo to Narita Airport?

Thanks in advance!
