Tokyo to Sapporo with Hokkaido-Higashi 2009/7/20
Hi,

I am planing a trip where I go from Tokyo to Sapporo and back using the Hokkaido and Higashinihon Pass. On the way up I want to go strait from Tokyo to Sapporo. The website has a example time table showing that it is possible (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2362_03.html). I however cannot find what train lines it used or any other information saying how to get there.

Does anyone know the specifics? ex: take ABC line from Ueno to Station A then transfer to the DEF line and so forth.

Thank you all for your help this website has really helped plan my trip!

You travel along the Tohoku Main Line (Tokyo to Aomori), the Tsugaru/Tsugarukaikyo Line (Aomori-Esashi), Esashi Line (Esashi-Hakodate), Hakodate Line (Hakodate-Oshamanbe) and then either the Muroran and Chitose Lines or all the way by Hakodate Line.

The following is the best website for looking up shedules of local trains (de-select shinkansen, air and limited express trains):

Does anyone have a plan about how to get back from Sapporo to Tokyo in 24 hours?

I'd like to stop in Hakodate on the way back.

Sapporo to Tokyo 2009/8/8
The trip by shinkansen and limited express can take as little as 9 1/2 hours with a stop in Hakodate (4 min). Of course the cost is \23180.

As mentioned in many other threads check this website for routes available for the dates and times of your trip:

It is not possible with the Hokkaido-Higashinihon Pass. Due to bad train connection, I think it can barely be done in 2 days.

I'd like to stop in Hakodate on the way back.

Then you might need three days when using the Hokkaido-Higashinihon Pass.

You can look up local train connections with the following online tool (un-check air, shinkansen and express options):

really? 2009/8/9
Seriously? 2 days?

I'd rather try get back in a day like the way I get there.

I have 5 days and worked it out as 2 days travel there and back.

I had taken the timetable on this page as an example. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2357_012.html but if it's taking 2-3 days to get back then I am barely spending a day in Hokkaido before having to return which makes it a rather pointless trip.
