From Kyoto to Kamakura best way.....? 2009/7/25 08:07
We have to get from Kyoto to Kamakura in a direct route , hopefully on a budget ticket or railpass . After 2 nights in Kamakura it's back to Tokyo. Is there a more economical(but still comfortable) way than the full-fare shinkansen?

If you travel by Japan Rail Pass, take a hikari train from Kyoto to Odawara (one out of four trains stops at Odawara), transfer to the JR Tokaido Line to Ofuna and then to the Yokosuka Line to Kamakura.

Is there a more economical(but still comfortable) way than the full-fare shinkansen?

An overnight bus journey from Kyoto to Yokohama or Tokyo is considerably cheaper than a shinkansen ride, but you might not consider it comfortable.
