Koya 2009/8/7
Ludagasp: Yes you can walk thru Okunoin after your temple dinner. Buses possibly not running much after 6pm, but you can walk there from pretty much any temple in Koya. Bear in mind that Okunoin is very atmospheric after dark, but not very well lit, so watch your step!

The interior of the temple is closed, but the site of Kobo Daishi's eternal meditation is accessible.

you can go at night 2009/8/9
We went after dinner and as such the cemetary does not close. It is a bit spooky at dusk, with the sound of owls and tree wood squeeking in the wind, ... but thats the whole fun of it.

Photographers wonderland 2009/8/9
It's also a fantastic place for photography. I spent hours there in the snow.

No photography is allowed in the innermost part around the main temple hall. It is considered one of Japan's most sacred areas.
