Seishun 18 Kippu on Express train 2009/8/10 Hi, I'm wondering: if I purchase a Seishun 18 kippu and have to get on an Express/Limited Express train to get to where I'm going, does the Seishun 18 kippu cover any of the cost of that ticket? For example, I get on the Express train, I show the conductor my Seishun 18 kippu, does he charge me the fare, or just the seat surcharge, or both? The JR site says ''Reserved seat on ordinary cars of local and rapid trains can be used if necessary. In this case, the ticket holder needs to make a reservation and pay required surcharges.'' But I'm still unclear on the total cost. As stated in the page (link above), - It cannot be used on "express" (kyuko) or "limited express" (tokkyu) trains at all. - I suppose the sentence you found refers to a case when there is a "reserved seat" section on "local" (futsu, or kakueki teisha) or "rapid" (kaisoku) trains. by AK rate this post as useful ... 2009/8/11 Hi, I have read that and other pages (JR, etc) about the pass and am just asking for explicit confirmation about the pricing. If you take a seat on an Expres or Limited express train, and the conductor comes around, you will be asked to pay the full base fare and the limited express surcharge (including the reserved seating charge, if that's the seat you've taken). by AK rate this post as useful
