Stay or make a day trip to Lake Toya 2009/8/19
Hokkaido
I am planning to travel to Hokkaido in this comming Oct'09.

I had decided to stay in Sapporo for 4 nights but I have not decide whether to extend 1 day to stay in Lake Toya or just make a day trip then come back to Sapporo.

Understand that there (Lake Toya) will have a fire work at night. We are very interested to see this fire work. If we choice to have a day trip, then what time is the last train to Sapporo?

We are planning to go to Houheikyou, Noboribetsu, Otaru and Asahikawa as well. What will be the best itinerary for this 4 days?

Any suggestion will be appreciated?

Hokk 2009/8/19
Hi Lyong. It seems a shame to go to Hokkaido and just stay in Sapporo. Sure it is a cool city, but the real reason for most people going to Hokk is to enjoy the great outdoors an the countryside, not be stuck in a mini Tokyo! If at all possible I suggest you look at an overnight stay in Toya, or one of the othe rplaces you mentioned. This will give more time to enjoy the rural scenery of Hokkaido. A hire car is also a good option for Hokk - get out on the open road!

Stay or make a day trip to Lake Toya 2009/8/19
Thanks!

Is there any Ryokan with Onsen in Lake Toya can be recommended for my 1 night accommodation? Our budget is not more than JPY10,000 per person.

As for rented a car. We have a concern that we do not understand japanese, is there any English road signage provided?

SUN PALACE 2009/8/19
Hi Lyong,
Check out Sun Palace in Lake Toya, within your budget. We stayed there a few months ago,and would not hesitate to recommend the place for value, delicious buffet dinner, excellent lake view from your room and the fireworks if still available?

I read people recommending Sun Palace at Lake Toya. Could you let me know the website to book or is it through a travel agency.

sun palace Toyako 2009/8/19
We just turned up at the hotel without reservation, and got room without any problem. The hotel is huge, could be the biggest in Toyako.
I do not know if they have English website, but here is the website in Japanese:
http://www.toyasunpalace.co.jp/

you may want to email :
info@toyasunpalace.co.jp

Or call the hotel directly for reservation:

This is a good site to make reservation, similar rate to what I paid last time.
By the way , the last bus stop from Toya station to Toyako is Sun Palace Hotel.
