2 full days Kyoto sightseeing tips? 2009/8/30
Kyoto City
Hello, We will be in Kyoto for 2 full days, leave morning of 3rd day. Staying nearby Kyoto JR Train Station.
We want to make the most of the 2 days sightseeing. Interested in OLD areas, temples, art museums, crafts areas.
Please give any and all suggestions. Should we take the time to go to Nara ?
THANK YOU very much,

I recommend to visit the sites with two or three red dots:

If you have only two days, I recommend to stay just in Kyoto.

2 days kyoto 2009/8/31
For 2 full days.

1. Kiyomizu Dera temple. Take Bus no. 206 at Kyoto Station, or take taxi. Try the Tofu, it's famous. Follow the cobble stone path (with shops on both sides) you walked and left turn on Forth Avenue. This is the Gion Area. One of the little alley way is where many Gisha house located. Continue on Forth Avenue and you will hit department stores, MacDonalds and subway station, going back to Kyoto Station etc.

2. Other option is go visit Miyazaki by train. Little bit far but worth it. Beautiful place, and not your typical tourist trap.

3. Sagano fun train ride. Very close by.

don't miss Nara 2009/8/31
Please consider going to Fushima Inari Shrine and then on to Nara. I did both in one day - leaving by JR train from Kyoto station about 8 AM and back to Kyoto by 3 PM.
These are both awesome places to see temples and shrines - you won't regret it.
In Kyoto I rec Arashiyama,Ryonji and the Golden Pavillion if you like natural beauty and culture.

What is interesting in Nara?

Nara 2009/9/1
Nara was a capital before Kyoto and has major temples and tombs. It is especially famous for a very old giant Buddha bronze statue inside the biggest wood building in the world.
It is a quiet pleasant place as most of the temples are set in big parks so crowds aren't too oppressive.

Nara top sights, temples old stuff? 2009/9/1
Is it worth time to go to Nara with only 2 full days in Kyoto? I am not interested in parks or scenery. I am interested in temples, markets, old stuff. THANKS MUCH

You should check out Nara 2009/9/17
It's only about 45 minutes to Nara by train. Just get off at JR Nara and there you can take a 5 min walk to Nara Park which houses Todaiji (must see) and a few other temples. Most of the people I bring there really enjoy it and think of it as one of the most memorable places they have been to. Deer roam around freely - it's really quite majestic. It shouldn't take more than a few hours and it's really worth it imo.

Can anyone tell me how to go to both Fushimi-Irani Shrine and Nara in one trip? What train do we catch and how do we get from Fushimi-Irani shrine to Nara? What train? Thank you.

Arashiyama, Fushimi-Irani Taisha, Nara 2009/9/19
Going to be in Kyoto for 2 days. One day to explore Gion and Kyoto temples. Second day would you recommend going to Fushimi-Irani Taisha Shrine and Nara for the day /// or to go to Arashiyama and bamboo groves for the day? Thank you.

Fushimi Inari and Uji/Nara 2009/9/19
Between those options, I think Fushimi Inari Shrine and Nara is nicer than Arashiyama, although there is nothing wrong with Arashiyama. It's a nice area.

You could alternatively do Fushimi Inari and Uji. The Byodoin is well worth visiting, and Mimuroto-ji Temple features hundreds of flowers, if you are visiting in the early summer.

Getting to... 2009/9/19
To get to Nara from Fushimi Inari, take the JR Nara Line to Nara Station.

If you want to go to Uji instead, take the Keihan Line to Chushojima. From there, transfer to the Uji Line and get off at Uji Station (the final stop).

Both are very easy. Uji is a bit cheaper to do from Fushimi Inari.
