Dear visitor, if you know the answer to this question,
please post it. Thank you!

should i give up tohoku 2009/9/3
Hi,

Feeling a little down as i m finding more & more transportation issues in my tohoku planning.

as i can't drive & it's in winter that i m going to tohoku, i m relying entirely on trains.

however, on closer planning (using hyperdia) to work out my timing in various spots, i find that most shinkansen trains do not run at night, the latest is at most 5pm.

for instance, i had thought i could cover lake tazawa and kakunodate in one day. but the train timings are just not matching that i can go sendai-tazawako-kakunodate-sendai in a single day.

i m getting quite stressed just with the thought of possibility missing trains and stuck at some place in the wilderness of tohoku in deep cold winter.

shld i give up tohoku?

i was excited by the charms of nature in tohoku, but the planning seems to be draining all the fun away.

Discouraged traveller.

That is simply not true. Shinkansen run until midnight!

Of course, they do.

Tohoku 2009/9/3
I hope you won't mind me saying this. If you want to rush through Tohoku like doing a daytrip from Sendai to Tazawa-ko AND Kakunodate, then it's better to skip it altogether. It's just not doing Tohoku any justice, IMO.
Admittedly one would like to see as much as possible in as short a time as possible. I did before, and to certain extend still do, but most of the time I live to regret it. I heard about the beauty of Ginzan Onsen and wanted to see it as a daytrip because accommodation is so expensive, and only reluctantly agreed to stay a night as strongly advised by a friend. Now I'm glad I did or else I won't truly appreciate the place. I once did a daytrip to Yama-dera and Matsushima from Sendai. Half a day for Yama-dera is OK, but only a few hours in Matsushima is not enough and now I want to go back again!
Going to Tazawa-ko from Sendai is easy enough, 1.5 hr direct shinkansen + 10 min connecting bus, but it's a pity to miss out the lovely Nyuto Onsen which can be reached by bus from Tazaw-ko. To fully take in the beautiful onsens, spend at least 1 night there, and you have to allocate extra time if you want to include Kakunodate.

Forgive me if I appear to be criticizing too harshly. It's just my passion for Tohoku that urge me to say to others that Tohoku really deserves to be enjoyed on a leisurely pace, even if it means to have to go back again and again.
