Climbing Mt Fuji on 26 or 27 September 2009/9/14
Fujigoko
I am wondering whether I can do this. Can anyone tell me if there is a hut or other accommodation open at Kawaguchiko 5th station? If so I could travel there Saturday afternoon and start climbing very early Sunday morning so I could get the 15.40 bus back to Kawaguchiko station or a taxi if I am later than this.

Can anyone tell me if there is a hut or other accommodation open at Kawaguchiko 5th station?

Yes, there seems to be accommodation around the 5th Station:

If so I could travel there Saturday afternoon and start climbing very early Sunday morning so I could get the 15.40 bus back to Kawaguchiko station or a taxi if I am later than this.

It entirely depends on your strength and stamina. The average person requires 8-13 hours for the round trip to the summit.

I'm not sure by your question if you are intending to climb Fuji in a group or by yourself? If you are going to climb Fuji out of season you must do it as part of a group. There will be virtually no facilities once you start climbing the mountain and conditions can be dangerous even in september.

Climbing Mt.Fuji in September 2009/9/27
I just completed the climb Sept.5th
I suggest retractable ski poles, good shoes & oxygen bottle if possible. Very hard climb, but I'm 47 & a smoker. Take your time or muscles will cramp. Took me 7 1/2 hrs up, 3 1/2 hrs down.

Thank you for your replies. I climbed Mt Fuji today (27/9) on Yoshida Track with no problem after staying in a hut at 8th station. There were 30-40 staying there so there were lots of people around. However the hut closed today and the signs say the track is totally closed for maintenance after today so I don't think this track will be available again until next year.
