kyoto -> mt fuji -> tokyo 2009/9/15
Fuji City
my partner and i would like to visit mt fuji on the way to tokyo in november.

- what is the best way to travel there from kyoto and then proceed to tokyo from mt fuji?
- is one night at mt fuji area enough? recommended place to stay?

Mt Fuji is not opened for hiking in november though.
I think it'll be better to head to Fuji Go ko (Fuji five lakes) instead.

If you want to have a good view AT Mt. Fuji, instead of getting very close to it or going part of the way up, you could stay at Hakone area instead. From Kyoto, take Shinkansen (be sure to check which one stops where) to Odawara, then you can do the Hakone round course to get to Lake Ashi. On sunny days you might get a good view of Mt. Fuji from around that area.

If you hope to see Mt. Fuji, then Fuji Five Lake [ Fujigoko ] district can be a good choice when you are blessed with a fine weather.

For visiting in late November, Hakone can be a better choice.

: what is the best way to travel there from kyoto and then proceed to tokyo from mt fuji?

That depends on which you make most of: comfortableness, convenience, time cost or money cost? And, which places in Tokyo will you lodge and travel in?

From Kyoto to the area around Kawaguchiko [ Lake Kawaguchi ], which is one of Fuji Five Lakes:
- Shinkansen and local bus
: Route: Kyoto 09:56 Shinkansen Hikari 466 ---- 11:31 Shizuoka 11:48 Shinkansen Kodama 644 ---- 12:01 Shin-Fuji --[walk]-- Shin-Fuji Sta. bus stop 12:30 --[Fujikyu local bus]-- 14:25 Kawaguchiko Sta. bus stop.
: Fare and charge (per adult): JR 10,380 to 10,580 yen (fare and Shinkansen charge, with seat reservation) + Fujikyu bus 2,360 yen (fare, with no reservation).
- Overnight highway bus
: Route: Kyoto Sta. Hachijo Entrance bus stop (on the Shinkansen side) 23:18 --[highway bus]-- 08:20 Kawaguchiko Sta. bus stop.
: Fare (per adult): 8,000 yen.
: Note: You have to reserve your seats and purchase your tickets by four days before the boarding date. (As to the reservation, I think you can consult Kintetsu office at Kyoto Station, which is in front of Shinkansen Central Gate of JR.)

thanks for your replies! very helpful. :)

we were planning to go to mt fuji's 5th station to look around. don't think we are going to climb. is this better done from hakone or fuji 5 lakes (ie. lake kawaguchi)?

in response to omotenashi: we're visiting 1st week of november. we would probably have a JR pass. would we still have to purchase the shinkansen tickets or just the local bus tickets?
not sure where we are staying in tokyo yet but is it better/easier to be based in tokyo and do a day trip to mt fuji?
