Immigration Office 2009/9/16
Well, i don't know where you from,
But for praticly all country you can stay in Japan 90 days without visa.

But if you wan't to extend your stay you must go to the immigration office in Japan or try to call to the ambassade of your country in Japan and ask them how to extand your stay, they proly give you the number for the immigration office.

I believe that extending a tourist visa is usually not possible, unless you have a very convincing reason.

Also, it is not true that "praticly all country you can stay in Japan 90 days without visa". Only the citizens of about a third of the world's countries can do so. Details are below:

Probably not possible 2009/9/19
I would say it would be very difficult to convince Immigration to extend a 15 day visa for two months. A short-term visit visa is usually given you for a reason- that they do not want you staying longer than that. Even people who get 90 days usually need a very good reason to extend the visa (other than UK nationals).

One or two days may be possible- one or two months almost definitely not.

My sister in law came to Japan february on a visitor visa .Her visa was only for 3 months .Everybody told me that I cant extend her stay but I did!! for another 3 months.Your reasons have to be very convincible.Me and husband both work full time,we have 4 children under the ages of 8,we have been living in Japan 4 years now.We need a family member to help us living here in Japan,my sister in law lived with us for 6 months before she left home.I did it and so to you!goodluck!

Apply For Extension 2009/11/11
Other visas
Info from the Ministry regsrding your question:

*Other visas may or may not be extended, depending on your nationality, whether the activity for which the visa was issued is completed, and so on. In some cases, you may be granted a tourist visa for a few days to a couple of weeks in order to extend your activities in Japan, but this will again be at the discretion of the Immigration Office. If you can provide sufficient reason, then your chances of being awarded an extension are of course greater.
