Dear visitor, if you know the answer to this question, please post it. Thank you! To JR Railpass or not to JR Railpass? 2009/9/17 I am travelling to Tokyo next month. I'm considering purchasing a 7 day JR Railpass but will only be using this for a return trip to Kyoto and the week around Tokyo, and perhaps the train from the airport into Tokyo (can the JR pass be used on this train?). My question is, is it worthwhile purchasing the JR Pass if that is all I will use it for or should I just book a return trip to Kyoto and pay as I go for the other travel? B by B (guest)   . 2009/9/17 The best way is to calculate the trips in between and see if it makes up to the cost but according to what you said it's not worth it to get the JR pass. you can use http://www.hyperdia.com to calculate your JR train rides and see if it's worth it. The rule of thumb generally is at least 2 shinkansen rides for the 7day pass, but if you are taking loads of ltd express trains in between you may be able to make up to the amount. by Amelia (guest) rate this post as useful ... 2009/9/17 If comes out even (between the 7-day Japan Rail Pass adn buying individual tickets) if you make a round trip between Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto on Shinkansen trains within a 7-day period, and if the schedule works out and the 7-day period covers one of your trips to/from the airport (you can take Narita Express - that's a JR train - betwen central Tokyo and Narita Airport), then it more than pays off. by AK rate this post as useful
