Mount Aso 2009/9/27 Kumamoto How much time do I need to allocate for a visit at Mount Aso excluding the transportation time. Thank you. by Wendy (guest)   ... 2009/9/27 About 15 minutes around the crater is enough (not including ropeway ride). If you want to do some hiking, you obviously would have to add additional time. Yes, that should be enough time to take the ropeway and see the crater. Note that sunset can be as early as around 5pm during winter. On overcast days it could be already quite dark, but you should still be able to see enough. Additionally, there is always the risk that you cannot go to the crater due to volcanic activity.
