Click on get directions, enter Tokyo, Japan and Kyoto, Japan, then click "by car". It's approximately a 6 hour trip on a good day. I, like you, enjoy driving at times and having the freedom to get off the expressways and seeing the countryside. Have fun!! by geogeek1 rate this post as useful Also... 2009/11/12 if you click on "Show options", and check the "Avoid Tolls" box, it will give you three different routes which will take you 11 to 12 hours. One goes along the coast and the other two take you up to Nagano then on to Kyoto. I plan on driving from Narita to Misawa in Aomori Prefecture on one of my next trips. But doing sightseeing by car is not good. There are a lots of one-way streets in downtown Kyoto, and parkinglots just expensive.
