Dear visitor, if you know the answer to this question,
please post it. Thank you!

The illumination in Shirakawa-go in 2010 2009/10/12
Shirakawa
Has anyone got the idea exactly the date for the illumination of the gassho-zukuri farmhouses in Shirakawa-go, Japan in 2010 ?

The illumination only takes place for 7 days each year. I know it is usually some where in January or February but I really need to know the exact date, so that I can make a room reservation in one of the minshuku(home stay hotel) in the village of Shirakawa-go.

Than you in advance.

Home-stay inn(minshuku) in Shirakawago 2009/10/16
Had any body ever stayed in one of the home-stay inns(minshuku) in Shirakawago during winter before? I'm going to stay there for a few nights during the illumination event somewhere in next January. Any good recommendation with contacts, such as email or website?

Shirakawago illage shot during winter 2009/10/16
Thank you, Uji!

Btw, can you tell me where I can capture a landscape shot of Shirakawago with a higher angle, say on a hill?

I found this but I'm not sure whether the road to walk up to this viewing platform(Ogimachi) is closed during winter:

Pls advise me. TQ in advance again.

To go to the Ogimachi Tenbodai Lookout for the postcard view of the village, there is a 200 shuttle van from the bus terminal near the tourist info. centre. But in winter time, the road up the hill may be closed to car (indicated by the dotted line on the Japanese map), so I am not sure whether the shuttle service will be suspended or not. In the English map, the lookout is just beneath point 64 on the left. To walk up there from the bus terminal will take about 15 min.

Ogimachi Tenbodai Lookout Point 2009/10/17
Thank you so much, Williams!

Thank you for the useful information on the lookout point at Ogimachi. It doesn't matter if the road is closed for the bus during winter as I'll be willing to walk up the hill to take the picture of the entire Shirakawago village.
