How to go to Shin-Yokohama Station 2009/10/12
Yokohama
I would like to go to ShinYogohama Raumen Meseum. I know that it's near Shin-Yokohama Station. So I would go to the Shin-Yohokama Station by Tokaido Shinkansen (from JR Tokyo Station) but there are three types of trains, Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama.

- What type of trains that I can take to the Shin-Yokohama Station?
- Can I use JR East Pass for that train?

Thanks

Mukkyy,

- What type of trains that I can take to the Shin-Yokohama Station?

All trains stop at Shin-Yokohama, although as the Nozomi (and Hikari) are mostly longer distance trains, you will probably find it easier to get a seat on the all-stations Kodama trains.

- Can I use JR East Pass for that train?

Nope. (See below)

Thanks

JR East slower trains 2009/10/13
As mentioned, the Shinkansen is operated by JR Tokai and not JR East. If you wish to use a pass that is specifically for JR East trains, you can use the slower JR trains. Assuming your nearest station is Tokyo Station, the following is a typical route.

Tokyo Stn. - Yokohama Stn.
JR Tokaido Line

Yokohama Stn. - Higashikanagawa Stn.
JR Keihin-tohoku Line

Higashikanagawa Stn. - Shin-yokohama Stn.
JR Yokohama Line

This trip takes about 45 minutes.

On a related note, however, as much as I would like you to visit Ramen Museum, my favorite museum in my neighborhood, I'm not sure if it's worth the trip. You might want to visit other spots in Yokohama while you're at it. If you're interested in soccer, the Nissan Stadium near the museum has guided tours, but the touristical spots are located more towards Yokohama Stn. or Sakuragi-cho Stn. both accessible by JR East trains.

RE: How to go to Shin-Yokohama Station 2009/10/13
: What type of trains that I can take to the Shin-Yokohama Station?

On Tokaido Shinkansen, every train started from / destined to Tokyo Station stops at Shin-Yokohama Station (as of October 2009).
See also "Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen" section in this page.

: Can I use JR East Pass for that train?

No. Tokaido Shinkansen (Shin-Osaka - Tokyo) is operated by JR-Central, not by JR-East.

From Tokyo, you can get to Shin-Yokohama fully by JR-East conventional lines, within 1 hour or less.
Tokyo (Track 6) --[Keihin-Tohoku Line: for Ofuna: about 30 to 35 min]-- Higashi-Kanagawa --[Yokohama Line: for Hashimoto: about 10 min]-- Shin-Yokohama.
