Tohoku stops 2009/10/13 We have two days to spend between Yudakana and Towada-ko(accomm booked in both places) and are now wondering where we should stop for the two nights in between. We are a group of 5 elderly ladies touring Tohoku for our 60th birthday bash and focus on koyo viewing and onsen hopping. We will have a car so transport is not a problem. Ginzan Onsen and Nyuto Onsen should also have beautiful autumn foliage. No onsen, unfortunately, but I considered it well worth a stop when I was there. http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/location/regional/akita/kakunodate.html There are some wonderful walking streets that should be great in fall color. I stayed at this hotel: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/kakunodate/H45032.html and the restaurant offered some of the best Italian food I had while I was in japan - I know it sounds crazy, but it was a great break from the usual ryokan fare.
