Baseball of any kind in winter? 2009/10/28
Tokyo 23-ku
I'm making my second trip to Japan in December and unfortunately I will miss the baseball season yet again. I still plan on going by a couple of ballparks and taking some pictures, but it won't be the same as experiencing a game.

Does anyone know of any kind of winter baseball taking place in the Tokyo/Yokohama area? I don't care if it's high school, amateur, independent league, exhibition...whatever.

Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone been to the Baseball Hall of Fame at the Tokyo Dome? Is it worth checking out?

Thanks for the link, stanfordgal, but unfortunately it looks like the season ended in October. Also, the league is in Kansai and I will be in Tokyo.

Thanks anyway.

masters 2009/11/11
How about this. It takes place in December 6th.
But ballpark is about 100km from Tokyo. And player's age are about 40~60, though they are ex-professional baseball player.

train station 2009/11/11
Thanks Yoshi! I would be interested in checking that out. What is the closest train station to Hitachinaka Stadium? I can't seem to find it on hyperpedia.

katsuta station 2009/11/11
The closest station is Katsuta Station(勝田駅), JR Joban Line.
If you go there from Tokyo Station, here is access.

Tokyo
↓ JR Yamanote Line
Ueno
↓ JR Joban Line
Katsuta

If you take a limited express train "Super Hitachi" from Ueno, it takes about 90minutes to Katsuta. If not,it takes about 130minutes.

The stadium is about 4km from the EAST EXIT of Katsuta Station. You can take a bus from the station to near the stadium if you want, and you will walk about 10minutes.If you want to know further information about taking a bus,I will answer again.

This is for reference.

Daisuke Matsuzaka 2009/11/17
Hi Norm! Are you still here? I managed to find another game in December. Daisuke Matsuzaka(Boston Redsox) will take part in the game, though it's a exhibition.

Wow Yoshi, thanks! Is the game being played in Mito?

Mito Baseball Stadium 2009/11/18
Yes,Mito Baseball Stadium. Mito and Hitachinaka are neighbor cities, so you can go there with almost the same procedure as I mentioned above(JR Joban Line). The closest station is Mito.
