Hakone Detached Palace to Hakone Machi 2009/11/1
Hakone
Hi, I'm planning to visit Hakone with my parents next week. Wanted to visit Hakone Detached Palace by walking from Hakone Checkpoint. But it might be too tiring for my parents to walk along from Hakone Detached Palace to Hakone Machi. Unable to obtain any information.

Would appreciate if you could kindly advise regarding bus transport back. Thank you.

From where exactly will you start walking? The parking lot or bus stop below the Detached Palace? I will assume so.

From the parking lot/bus stop it is a short ascent to the hill on which the palace building and park is located. I imagine it to be tiring for elderly people who are not good on their legs, but no problem for anybody else. I think there are some stairs involved, although I imagine that there is also a slope alternative.

The distance from the detached palace to the checkpoint is only 500 meters and all downhill. No problem except for those who have major problems with walking even shorter distances. Again, there are some stairs involved, but I believe there is also a slope alternative.

Hakone Detached Palace to Hakone Machi 2009/11/1
Hi Uji, thanks for the reply. Would be walking from Hakone Machi to Checkpoint , then to Hakone Detached Palace. Thinking of catching a bus from the palace garden to Hakone yumoto now. But I am not sure where the nearest Hakone Tozan bus stop is from the palace garden. You mentioned that there is a bus stop at the palace garden. Is there any direction signage to the bus stop?

Thank you.

If I remember correctly, there is a bus stop just along the street next to the parking lot of the detached palace. It is marked by a usual bus stop sign. The name of the bus stop is Onshi-Koen-mae.
