Dear visitor, if you know the answer to this question,
please post it. Thank you!

From shinjuku to gotemba premium outlets 2009/11/4
I plan to make a day trip to gotemba outlets on 19 Dec (saturday) while I stay in Shinjuku. The direct JR Kanto bus to the outlets (departs at 9:30 or 10:40 am from Shinjuku new south exit) seems to be suitable. Do I need reservation? Would it be full easily? If yes, is it possible to make phone reservation while I don't speak much Japanese?

The alternative is the Okakyu trains and buses to gotemba station/IC (the Okakyu shopping tour bus departs too early (8:30 am) for me). Besides the more expensive 'Romance Car' express to Gotemba, is there any timetable for the cheaper regular trains (I've found the schedule for the buses)? Also, I cannot find the fare information for both the odakyu buses and trains.

Thank you.

Do I need reservation?

Yes, all seats are reserved. However, if the bus is not fully booked, it should be possible to purchase tickets and seat reservations just before departure on the same day.

Would it be full easily?

Considering that it is a weekend, yes, I think there is a considerable risk that it might be fully booked.

If yes, is it possible to make phone reservation while I don't speak much Japanese?

They do list a phone number on the following English page, so you can at least try it:
http://www.jrbuskanto.co.jp/bus_route_e/cotimep01.cfm?pa=2&pb=1&pc=j00...

Odakyu buses from Shinjuku to Gotemba IC cost 1540 yen one way.

Train fares and schedules can be looked up here:

Thank you, return trip fare/child fare 2009/11/5
Thank you very much. I'll try to use my very limited Japanese to reserve. Anyway, the Odakyu buses also seem to be OK (more frequent).
Also, for both Odakyu Bus and Kanto Bus to gotemba/gotemba outlets, the two-way fare is cheaper than one-way fare on average. But when I take the forward trip, I may not be sure whether I would take the return bus by the same company (because of the limited schedule of the buses, not sure whether I would like to spend more/less time there, and quality of bus uncertain etc). Can I just buy the one way ticket first, and then if I want to take the return bus, change to a two-way ticket and pay the difference in fare?
Also, it seems that for most trains, kids under 6 are free of charge. Would it be the same for these buses (provided they don't occupy any seat)?
Thank you.
