Cheap Hotels Near Akiba, Yamanote-sen? 2010/2/27 09:43
Hello, it's been a few years since my last trip to Japan - I always come here and get great advice from people here :)

I plan to travel to Japan this June (it's the only time I have available). As I do frequent Akihabara, I would like to know if anyone knows of any inexpensive accomodation in the area or, say, one or two train stops from the Akiba stop on the Yamanote (furthest)?

My main requirements would be a personal shower (not public bath) and laundry the hotel has it. I've stayed at Toyoko Inns through Japan, but was wondering if there was anything equivalent or cheaper priced. English is not a requirement, I can speak a little Japanese to get by as with my past trips :)

Thank you in advance.

Sutton Place Hotel Ueno 2010/2/27 10:50
I've stayed at the Sutton Place Hotel Ueno which is slightly more expensive than Toyoko Inn but much less than the more luxurious hotels, and I would highly recommend it. Rates start from 8600 yen per night for 1 person. It's a short walk from JR Ueno station, which is two stops north of Akiba on the Yamanote/Keihin-Tohoku lines. Around the corner from the hotel you can find Sunkus and Family Mart convenience stores right next to each other.

Not sure if you are aware, but Toyoko Inn have a new location just 2 minutes walk from Uguisudani station on the JR Yamanote and Keihin Tohoku Lines. Uguisudani is one stop north of Ueno station:
