10 days Hokkaido + tokyo itinerary

we would like to ask the following qns:
1) Given 10 days, is it advisable to do a 7 day visit in Hokkaido n 3 days in Tokyo?

1) Is self drive the best way to explore Hokkaido? We are v much interested in visiting e scenic places plus e city area itself.

2) If we opt to rent a car for Hokkaido, is it advisable to get the JR pass for travelling within e city area of hokkaido, to and fro Tokyo n Hokkaido , and travelling within Tokyo n back to aiport?

If that is what you want to see, yes, that sounds reasonable.

For rural regions and national parks, a rental car is the recommended means of transportation, but be very careful about road conditions in winter. Inside and between major cities, trains and buses are just as convenient.

If we opt to rent a car for Hokkaido, is it advisable to get the JR pass for travelling within e city area of hokkaido, to and fro Tokyo n Hokkaido , and travelling within Tokyo n back to aiport?

It is unlikely that a Japan Rail Pass will pay off, unless you use want to travel by train between Tokyo and Hokkaido.
