Bus to Snow Monkey Park 2010/4/30 14:56
I am going to the Snow Monkey Park by bus from Yudanaka station. Could anyone tell me where I can find the local bus timetable and what stop should I get off to the park?

You can take either the buses bound for Shiga Kogen/Shirane and get off at Kanbayashi Onsen-guchi bus stop or the buses for Kanbayashi Onsen and get off at Kanbayashi Onsen. A map and explanations is given here:

Here is the timetable for the Shiga Kogen/Shirane bound buses:

And for the Kanbayashi Onsen bound buses:

Walk to monkey park 2010/5/1 05:57
I realize the original post was for bus information to the Jigokudani monkey park but it is also possible to walk there from Yudanaka station. It takes about 2 hours and is mostly uphill (although not steep) and anyone fit enough for a 2 hr walk (and has the time) will certainly enjoy it. On the way you walk the narrow streets of Shibu onsen

up to a small road (no cars) that leads into the forest and parallels the Yokoyugawa River. The road will lead right to the monkey park. On the way back you can stop at a public onsen for a soak.

Staying in Yudanaka? 2010/5/2 14:04
If you were thinking of staying there, we stayed at Shimaya Ryokan and the owner very kindly drove us to the monkey park and offered to come and pick us up after if it was too cold to walk home.

The ryokan is about 300m from the station.

I also stayed at Shimaya Ryokan. The owner drove us to the monkey park and then gave us a map and highlighted interesting places for us to visit on the walk back down to the Ryokan, such as a sake brewery and streets with old buildings. It was a really nice walk.

Bus details 2010/5/4 18:59
Thank you for the suggestions. But I don't think I can walk there for 2 hours as I am planning to go in winter.

Thanks, Uji for the timetables. Since they both are in Japanese, could you please help to translate the stop where I should get on, get off and the remarks.

Hi, as the time table is in Japanese, can anyone kindly let me know which stop is Shibu Onsen? I'm taking a bus from Shibu Onsen to Yudanaka Station. Thanks!

Shibu Onsen in not listed in the linked timetable. The station is located about half way in between Yudanaka Station (湯田中駅) and Kanbayashi Onsen (神林温泉).

Additionally, you can take the following buses that operate between Yudanaka and Shiga Kogen:

渋温泉 means Shibu Onsen

Don't fret 2010/9/28 21:49
The bus will have English announcements and or the bus driver will let you know if you indicate that is where you wish to go. The petrol station near the bus stop even has printed directions since so many people ask where to go. On the following map you will see two gasoline symbols and the symbol for the monkeys to the right.
