We are also looking to rent mobiles on our trip. I have read that rentafonejapan.com are good. Quote from user in 2008 'You do it by email and they can send them to your hotel so they're waiting for you on arrival. At the end of our trip we just put them in the pre-stamped envelope provided and sent them back. The company is run by an English guy in Kyoto. Also, saw an ad on this website that I am going to look into for http://www.telecomsquare.co.jp/en/agency/jtbgmt14/ - no idea, would like to hear other's thoughts

In 2008 I rented a phone at Narita airport from JALABC. I had the phone for about 6 weeks and had no complaints. Total bill was about $160 US. Maybe that's high, I don't know. Never rented a cell phone before.

I used rentafone Japan twice - the first time I paid extra to have the phone sent to me in NYC as I was traveling on directly after my arrival at NRT - the second time the phone was waiting for me at my Toyoko Inn hotel. I was very satisfied. This trip I had my own phone which worked in Japan so no need to rent.....
